Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi could be on his way out of Nottingham Forest this month, with the club reportedly open to offers for the 27-year-old.
Awoniyi, who joined Forest from Union Berlin in the summer of 2022 for a club-record £17 million, has struggled to secure regular game time this season.
After battling persistent groin injuries, the Nigerian forward has started only two Premier League matches under manager Nuno Espirito Santo. His absence from the starting lineup has seen Chris Wood take over as the first-choice striker.
Wood has been in impressive form, scoring 11 goals and providing one assist in 18 starts, placing him fifth on the Premier League’s top scorer list.
As a result, Forest have decided to entertain offers for Awoniyi this January. The club is reportedly keen on bringing in a suitable replacement before allowing the former Mainz 05 striker to leave, according to Mail Online.
Despite injury setbacks, Awoniyi had a solid start at Forest, scoring 17 goals in his first two seasons. With 30 months remaining on his current contract, his future at the City Ground remains uncertain.
The club is also eyeing Brazilian striker Yuri Alberto as a potential replacement. The 23-year-old, valued at around £19 million, has enjoyed a strong spell at Corinthians, netting 57 goals and registering 18 assists in 148 appearances.
However, Forest faces competition from Newcastle United for Alberto’s signature, as reported by Nottingham Post.
