Parma Eye January Move for defender who dumped Nigeria to represent Italy at international level

Parma are reportedly preparing to make a move for Leicester City defender Caleb Okoli in the January transfer window, just months after the Italian youth international joined the Foxes.

The Serie B side is keen to bring the 22-year-old back to Italy, where he developed his skills and made a name for himself.

Okoli, who made the summer switch to Leicester City from Atalanta, has been a regular feature in the Foxes’ squad, appearing in 12 of their 19 Premier League games this season.

However, despite his consistent performances, there is growing speculation surrounding his future in England, with Parma eager to strengthen their defensive options and potentially offer the defender a return to his home country.

Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy may be reluctant to let go of Okoli, especially as the club finds itself fighting relegation in the Premier League.

The Foxes, currently in 19th place with only three league wins this season, are just two points away from safety, making Okoli’s contributions even more valuable during this crucial period.

Okoli’s rise through the ranks has been impressive. After joining Atalanta’s youth setup in 2015, he worked his way up, making his Serie A debut during the 2022/23 season.

Following loan spells at SPAL and Cremonese, he earned a move to Frosinone before Leicester secured his services with a five-year contract in July 2024.

Despite his early success in England, the prospect of returning to Italy could prove tempting for Okoli, who has yet to make his senior debut for Italy but has represented the nation at youth levels, including the U21s.

Although he was called up to the senior squad for UEFA Nations League fixtures in 2024, he did not feature, leaving the door open for Nigeria to potentially call him up.
