Nigerian forward Victor Boniface will miss Bayer Leverkusen’s first Bundesliga fixture of 2025 against Borussia Dortmund on January 10 following a setback in his rehabilitation process from a hamstring injury.
Boniface, who had a strong start to the season with eight goals and one assist in 15 appearances, sustained a hamstring injury in mid-November.
Initially expected to return for the clash against Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park, the 24-year-old’s recovery has been delayed further, according to updates from Werkself Xtra.
As a result, Boniface is also likely to miss Leverkusen’s second fixture of the year against Mainz on January 14.
However, there is optimism that the Super Eagles striker could be fit for the January 18 encounter against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Despite Boniface’s absence, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has solid attacking options available, with Patrik Schick in fine form before the winter break.
The Czech forward’s recent performances suggest Leverkusen can maintain their attacking threat in Boniface’s absence.
Boniface’s return date remains unconfirmed, but his recovery progress will be closely monitored as he aims to regain full fitness for the second half of the Bundesliga campaign.
