Udinese has commenced plans to sign Norwegian goalkeeper Egil Selvik as a replacement for their injured Nigerian shot-stopper, Maduka Okoye.
Okoye sustained a wrist injury during Udinese’s 2-0 defeat to Genoa in Serie A on December 1, 2024. Following surgery, the 25-year-old is expected to be sidelined for approximately three months.
With Okoye out of action, Udinese currently relies on Razvan Sava and the 39-year-old veteran Daniele Padelli, a former player for Inter, Sampdoria, and Torino.
To reinforce the squad, the club has initiated plans to secure a replacement during the January transfer window.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb via Corriere dello Sport, Udinese’s management has already established contact with the representatives of Egil Selvik.
The Norwegian goalkeeper, born in 1997, was recently released by Haugesund, a club competing in the Eliteserien, Norway’s top-tier football league.
Discussing the club’s January transfer strategy, Udinese’s sporting director Gianluca Nani recently stated: “Numerically we are many, the market is open all year. We are careful, then sometimes it is determined by the results, injuries, and the module. We are in a phase in which we are trying different solutions and we have time to analyze. But by eye, we should be fine.”
Before his injury, Okoye had been a standout performer for Udinese, keeping four clean sheets in fifteen appearances across all competitions.
The club hopes to maintain defensive solidity during his absence with the potential signing of Selvik.
