Aston Villa Keen on Super Eagles Winger Despite Injury Woes

English Premier League side Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing AC Milan’s Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze as a potential addition to their squad, despite the player’s current injury status.

The Nigerian international suffered a hamstring injury during Milan’s 1-1 draw against Roma on December 29, forcing him off the pitch in the first half.

Chukwueze was replaced by Tammy Abraham after clutching his thigh in visible discomfort. Medical examinations later revealed a torn lesion on his left femoral biceps, ruling him out for at least five weeks.

Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, is determined to strengthen his attacking options as the club competes across multiple competitions. The recent departure of Jaden Philogene to Ipswich Town for £20 million has created room for reinforcements, and Chukwueze, a former Villarreal star, has emerged as a prime target.

Chukwueze joined AC Milan in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth up to €28 million but has struggled to make a significant impact at the San Siro. Limited opportunities under coaches Stefano Pioli, Paulo Fonseca, and now Sergio Conceição have seen him play second fiddle to the in-form Christian Pulisic. His stats — six goals and four assists in 55 appearances — have fallen short of expectations for a player once tipped to shine in Serie A.

Reports suggest Milan’s management is open to selling Chukwueze, alongside forwards Noah Okafor and Luka Jović, as the club aims to rebuild its squad. With Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford reportedly on Milan’s radar, the Nigerian winger’s exit seems increasingly likely.

A move to Aston Villa would reunite Chukwueze with Emery, under whom he enjoyed success at Villarreal, including winning the UEFA Europa League in 2021. The Spanish tactician is believed to have confidence in the winger’s ability to add pace and creativity to Villa’s frontline.

For Chukwueze, a switch to Villa Park could represent a fresh start and an opportunity to reignite his career in a competitive league. For AC Milan, offloading the Nigerian could help recoup funds to reinvest in their squad ahead of the next transfer window.

The coming weeks will be critical as Villa assesses Chukwueze’s recovery progress and Milan evaluates offers for the talented yet underperforming winger.
