Täfteå IK has announced the appointment of former Nigeria international Gbenga Arokoyo as their new head coach.
The 32-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the Swedish Fourth-tier club. Arokoyo’s playing career includes stints at Davish Athletic, Kwara Football Academy, Mjällby AIF, Gaziantepspor, Portland Timbers, Atlanta, Kalmar FF, and Umeå FC.
Renowned for his strong leadership and presence on the pitch, Arokoyo represented Nigeria at the senior level, earning two caps. Unfortunately, injuries cut his playing career short, leading to an early retirement from professional football. Nevertheless, he quickly transitioned into coaching, acquiring his UEFA coaching licenses and gaining significant experience with grassroots teams and youth academies in Sweden.
“This is a dream come true,” Arokoyo enthused.
“I’ve always wanted to give back to the game that has given me so much. Täfteå IK has a vision that aligns with my philosophy of hard work, discipline, and teamwork. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and help this team achieve its goals.”
The club’s president, Johan Andersson, expressed confidence in Arokoyo’s ability to succeed.
“Gbenga brings not only experience but also a deep understanding of the game. His leadership qualities and hunger to succeed make him the perfect fit for Täfteå IK,” Andersson said.
