English Championship club Sheffield United has emerged as a potential destination for Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho during the ongoing January transfer window.
The 28-year-old forward, currently struggling for form at La Liga side Sevilla, joined the Spanish club last summer on a free transfer after leaving Leicester City.
Despite arriving with high expectations following an impressive spell with the Foxes—where he tallied 61 goals and 34 assists—Iheanacho has failed to replicate that success at Sevilla under manager García Pimienta.
In the current league season, Iheanacho has been limited to just nine appearances, with half coming as a substitute, and he is yet to register a goal. However, his performances in the Copa del Rey have offered a glimpse of his potential, with three goals in two matches.
Amid his underwhelming start in Spain, speculation has been rife about a potential exit this January. English clubs like Watford and Ipswich Town have shown interest, while Greek side Panathinaikos is also monitoring the situation.
In a recent twist, transfer specialist Ekrem Konur reports that Sheffield United has entered the race for Iheanacho’s signature. The Blades are currently second in the Championship and eager to strengthen their squad to secure promotion to the Premier League.
Iheanacho’s experience and proven ability in English football make him an appealing option for Sheffield United. His arrival could bolster their attacking options as they aim to return to the top flight.
