Gift Orban, the Super Eagles invitee, marked his debut for TSG Hoffenheim with a memorable goal in their dramatic 2-2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.
The Nigerian striker, who joined Hoffenheim from Olympique Lyon earlier this month, found the back of the net in the 65th minute, pouncing on a pass from Adam Hlozek to score from close range.
Despite the draw, Orban took to social media to commend his team’s performance. “Good performance for the team,” he wrote, acknowledging the effort that saw Hoffenheim secure a crucial point in their ongoing battle against relegation.
Hlozek, who also played a key role in the match, praised his teammates for their resilience. “We deserved more than one point today. I’m very tired but happy we got another point. We want to continue like this. It was a very crazy game, but we did well and were dominant. That’s exactly how we want to play,” the Czech international said. “I was very emotional after my goal. We make too many mistakes, but today it worked better. We were compact.”
Orban’s goal comes as a timely boost for Hoffenheim, with the striker’s previous struggles in France, including a lack of goals for Lyon, pushing him towards a move to Germany.
His last goal for Lyon came in a 4-3 win over Strasbourg, where he scored a brace. The draw leaves Hoffenheim looking to build momentum as they fight for survival in the Bundesliga.
