Super Eagles eligible forward Chuba Akpom is on the brink of securing a loan move to French Ligue 1 side Lille.
Dutch outlet De Telegraaf confirms that Ajax and Lille have reached an agreement for the striker’s temporary transfer, with Les Dogues having the option to make the move permanent in the summer for a fee of €12.5 million.
As part of the deal, Lille will cover Akpom’s full salary throughout the loan period.
The move will also facilitate Mohamed Bayo’s exit from the club, as the Guinean forward is set to join Belgian side Royal Antwerp on loan.
Akpom has struggled for regular game time at Ajax since his move from Middlesbrough in 2023, with the presence of Brian Brobbey and Wout Weghorst limiting his opportunities.
The 29-year-old will now look to reignite his form in Ligue 1 as Lille push for a strong second half of the season.
Akpom, a graduate of Hale End academy, is eligible to represent Nigeria as he’s yet to feature for England.
