Shakiru Lawal, the goalkeeper for Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin Football Club, expressed his joy after achieving his first clean sheet of the season during the team’s 1-0 win against Solution FC on Sunday.
This accomplishment represents a notable improvement for ABS, who had previously allowed 12 goals in their last seven matches, utilizing four different goalkeepers in that span. Lawal’s performance is particularly commendable as it came in just his second match of the season.
In his debut against Sporting Lagos, Lawal showcased his skills with several key saves, despite the team suffering a loss.
“I am very excited about this match, and I feel we have finally made a significant change,” Lawal stated. “I am optimistic that we can carry this momentum into our next away fixture.”
He credited the team’s success to their shared resolve and the lessons learned from earlier setbacks. “Before the match, we had an open discussion about our past mistakes, which helped us maintain our focus and achieve our objective,” he remarked.
