Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu has finally conceded a goal in the Bundesliga after maintaining six consecutive clean sheets, setting a new club record in the process.
Atubolu, 22, etched his name in Freiburg’s history books during a goalless draw against RB Leipzig at the Europa-Park Stadion, surpassing club legend Richard Golz’s record of 510 minutes without conceding, which was set in the 2001-02 season.
The Super Eagles-eligible shot-stopper extended the streak to 576 minutes—the fifth-longest in Bundesliga history—before it was eventually broken.
His remarkable run came to an end in Freiburg’s 2-2 draw against Mainz at the Mewa Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Jonathan Burkardt ended the streak in the 34th minute, while Andreas Hanche-Olsen added a second for the hosts in the 74th minute.
Despite conceding, Atubolu’s outstanding form remains a key factor in Freiburg’s push for European qualification.
The young goalkeeper, born to a German mother and Nigerian father, is still eligible to represent Nigeria. However, he was overlooked by Germany’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann for their March internationals against Italy.
Atubolu has now kept 10 clean sheets in 26 league appearances this season, helping Freiburg remain in the race for a UEFA Champions League spot. The club currently sits fifth in the Bundesliga table with 42 points, level with Eintracht Frankfurt.
