Head Coach Bankole Olowookere has invited 25 players to the training camp of Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, as they gear up for the WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup scheduled to take place in Ghana from December 12 to 26, 2024.
The squad features several standout players from the recent FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, where the Flamingos reached the quarter-finals and clinched the FIFA Fair Play Trophy. The team exited the tournament after a 2-0 loss to eventual bronze medalists, the USA.
Midfielder Shakirat Moshood, who netted four goals at the World Cup, leads the call-up alongside first-choice goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma. Defenders Taiwo Adegoke, Jumai Adebayo, and Prisca Nwachukwu; midfielder Farida Abdulwahab; and forwards Harmony Chidi, Peace Effiong, and Janet Akekoromowei are also among the invitees.
The Flamingos have been placed in Group B for the WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup, where they will face Côte d’Ivoire and Niger Republic. Hosts Ghana are in Group A alongside Burkina Faso and Benin Republic in the two-week, six-team competition.
All invited players are to report at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
