Super Eagles eligible Goalkeeper Noah Atubolu Addresses West Ham Transfer Links

Freiburg’s promising goalkeeper Noah Atubolu has responded to recent rumors linking him with a potential move to Premier League side West Ham United.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper, who has been in outstanding form this season, spoke to Sky Sports about the speculation, clarifying that he is focused on his current team.

Reports out of England suggested that West Ham had shown interest in Atubolu, as the Hammers seek reinforcements following a challenging start to their campaign.

Despite a summer rebuild, West Ham currently sits in 14th place in the Premier League, prompting manager Julen Lopetegui to consider new signings, particularly in goal.

The club’s goalkeeper situation has been a topic of concern, with veteran Łukasz Fabiański nearing the end of his career at 39 and Alphonse Areola failing to establish himself as a consistent first-choice option.

Recently, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Atubolu has been identified as a “potential future target” for the club. However, Atubolu, who has made 12 Bundesliga appearances for Freiburg this season, is not currently entertaining a move.

The goalkeeper, who has been a key player for his team with four clean sheets, stated: “I noticed that, but I’m putting it aside. We’ve had a great season so far. We also have an important game in Leverkusen on Saturday. That’s my focus.”

While Atubolu’s rise in the Bundesliga has caught the attention of top clubs, including West Ham, the goalkeeper emphasized that his value is determined by his performances on the pitch rather than external market valuations.

“Of course, it’s nice and certainly a kind of reward for my achievements. But in the end, it doesn’t change my personal value. What’s important is what I show on the pitch,” he said.

Born in Germany to Nigerian parents, Atubolu is eligible to play for both Germany and Nigeria at the senior level, adding another layer of intrigue to his future in international football.

Atubolu’s standout performances this season have solidified his reputation as one of the top young goalkeepers in Europe, drawing praise for his commanding presence and ability to play with the ball at his feet. For now, however, his focus remains on Freiburg, with the club aiming to build on their impressive start to the Bundesliga season.
