Nigeria international Moses Simon is facing another spell on the sidelines as FC Nantes confirmed that he will undergo surgery to address ongoing ankle pain.
Simon, who made his return to action in August following a fractured fibula, is still suffering from complications related to that injury.
Nantes’ head coach, Antoine Kombouaré, explained that Simon recently had the plate and screws removed from his ankle and fibula due to persistent pain.
“Moses had the plate and screws removed from his ankle (and fibula) because he had been in a lot of pain recently,” Kombouaré revealed, as per Ouest-France.
“We are taking advantage of this period, with the short break coming up, to have him undergo this operation. It will give him two weeks before he can calmly resume with the group. It was really a necessary operation for him.”
The timing of the procedure means Simon will miss Nantes’ upcoming Coupe de France match against Drancy on December 21.
His recovery timeline also casts doubt on his availability for the team’s return to Ligue 1 action on January 5 against Lille.
Simon has been a standout performer for Nantes this season, contributing four goals and five assists in 14 Ligue 1 appearances.
His creative and goal-scoring ability has made him one of the club’s most important players, and his absence will be a significant blow to the Canaries as they look to maintain their momentum.
