Promise David: Nigeria forward following Victor Boniface’s footsteps in Belgium

Nigerian striker Promise David has continued his impressive display in Belgium, scoring on Thursday evening in Union Saint Gilloise’s 3-1 victory over KAA Gent.

The 23-year-old scored the opener in the 30th minute. David’s goal marked his ninth of the season in just 19 appearances.

Born in Canada, David joined the Belgian club after an excellent season with Nõmme Kalju. He signed a three-year contract with Union Saint Gilloise with the option of extending it by a further year.

David started with the youth team with Nõmme Kalju, where he scored 22 goals in 19 appearances. He made it to the senior team and then transferred to Belgium after an excellent season.

The 23-year-old scored 14 goals and provided 3 assists in 16 matches, the performance which prompted the move to Union Saint Gilloise to strengthen the forward position following the exit of Victor Boniface in the summer of 2023.

Boniface, who has played for the Belgian club, showcased himself to Bayern Leverkusen following a standout season in the UEFA Europa League.

The Super Eagles striker netted five goals and provided one assist in eight Europa League games, to convince Xabi Alonso to sanction his transfer to the Bundesliga champions.

With his current performance in Belgium, David is currently following in the footsteps of Boniface and might secure a move to top European teams soon.
