Super Eagles New Manager Chelle: “Football is about scoring goals”

Éric Sékou Chelle, the recently appointed manager of the Nigerian Super Eagles, has committed to turning around the team’s erratic performance and establishing them as a powerful, goal-scoring force.

During his official introduction as the 42nd head coach of Nigeria’s senior national team, Chelle conveyed his optimism about enhancing the Super Eagles’ offensive capabilities, which have been notably lacking despite the presence of numerous skilled forwards competing in Europe.

In a measured delivery from a prepared statement, the former center-back highlighted his strategic approach:

“Football is about scoring goals… and that is what will happen in the Super Eagles.”

The Super Eagles have faced challenges in maintaining consistent goal-scoring in recent years, which is surprising given the abundance of attacking talent available. The appointment of Chelle is viewed as a strategic move to rectify this issue and re-establish Nigeria’s prominence in international football.

With a rich background in both playing and coaching, Éric Sékou Chelle offers valuable experience and tactical acumen. Nevertheless, fans are cautiously hopeful, eager to see if his commitments will translate into tangible results on the field.

As the anticipation builds for his inaugural competitive match, Chelle’s leadership will be under close observation. His primary objective is straightforward: to transform the Super Eagles into a formidable goal-scoring force.

Chelle will lead the Super Eagles B in the upcoming African Nations Championship in East Africa next month, before shifting his focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, which kicks off with matches against Rwanda (away) and Zimbabwe (home) in March.

Having brought Mali’s Aiglons to the brink of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, Chelle departed from his position at MC Oran, a prominent Algerian club and 1989 African Champions’ Cup finalists, to join the Super Eagles.
