West Ham United is actively pursuing a transfer for 27-year-old striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest, as reported by Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany.
Should Awoniyi depart, Forest is expected to target Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, who hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Hammers are urgently seeking a new center-forward due to a shortage of options caused by recent injuries.
Michael Antonio is sidelined for an extended period following a leg fracture from a traffic accident in December, and Niclas Fullkrug is also out for several months due to a hamstring injury.
In light of these challenges, Plettenberg indicates that West Ham is eager to secure Awoniyi’s services at the London Stadium. They have reportedly made an initial inquiry regarding a loan arrangement, although a permanent transfer remains a possibility.
For West Ham to finalize a permanent deal, Nottingham Forest would need to lower their £20 million asking price.
