Nigeria’s status among the top 12 nations in the CAF coefficient rankings was solidified following Stade Malien’s exit from the Confederation Cup. Their 1-0 loss to CD Lunda left them at the bottom of Group B with only four points, while Enyimba concluded Group D in third place with five points.
The outcomes for these two clubs had significant consequences for their nations. Nigeria’s 12th position in the CAF coefficient rankings secures four continental slots (two for the CAF Champions League and two for the CAF Confederation Cup). Conversely, Mali’s drop to 13th, attributed to Stade Malien’s performance, results in only two slots for them.
This development offers some reassurance for other NPFL teams striving for a top-four finish, but it also serves as a reminder of the necessity for strong performances in continental competitions to uphold a favorable ranking and ensure optimal representation.
For the upcoming 2025-26 season, two NPFL teams will participate in the CAF Champions League, while another two will take part in the CAF Confederation Cup.
