The reasons behind the suspension of Tairu Hassan, chairman of the Lagos State Football Coaches Association, by the Lagos State Football Association as a Congress member have been disclosed.
Over the weekend, the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) provisionally suspended the LSFCA, led by Tairu Hassan, and dismissed him as a Congress member following a virtual executive meeting. The decision was made due to allegations of insubordination and gross misconduct.
Reports indicate that the suspension and dismissal were enacted immediately after seven out of the twelve executive members present at the virtual meeting voted in favor of the sanctions. The final approval of these actions will be determined by the General Congress, as only four members opposed the sanctions and one abstained from voting.
In a letter dated January 3rd, addressed to the Lagos State FA and signed by the Association’s President and Secretary, the football coaches’ body questioned the authority of the state football association to send coaches to the Nigeria Institute of Sports (NIS) for training without prior approval from the LSFCA.
The coaches criticized the LSFA’s actions as divisive and urged the state’s highest football governing body to reconsider its approach, advocating for collaboration with the LSFCA in managing football coaching affairs in the state and seeking necessary approvals.
In response to the letter and the coaches’ demands, the LSFA firmly rejected any proposals to share control and authority over football and related matters in the state with any affiliated organization. This was articulated in a letter titled “Re: Memo To Lagos State Football Association, LSFA,” dated January 20, 2025.
The letter further clarified that the LSFA is not required to obtain any approval or correspondence from the coaches’ association prior to initiating, advancing, or implementing any coaching development programs, including the recent NIS coaching initiative aimed at enhancing coaching skills within the state.
Therefore, the request for approval from the coaches is in violation of various laws and regulations governing football in the state.
Additionally, the LSFA stated that the coaches’ association has consistently demonstrated disloyalty to the football organization, an action that is subject to penalties under multiple sections of the regulations.
Consequently, it was concluded that “the LSFCA under your leadership is hereby provisionally dismissed as a Congress Member and as an organization with immediate effect in accordance with Article 14.2,” as stated in part of the letter.
