AC Milan rely on Chukwueze sale to fund purchase of in-form striker

AC Milan are intensifying their pursuit of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez in the final days of the winter transfer window, but financial constraints could see them offload winger Samuel Chukwueze to raise funds for the move.

According to reports from Super Deporte, Chukwueze has attracted interest from La Liga side Real Sociedad. Milan are open to selling the Nigerian winger on a permanent transfer and have set an asking price between €15M and €18M. Offloading Chukwueze would not only generate transfer funds but also relieve the club of his €4M annual salary.

Chukwueze, who previously impressed in La Liga with Villarreal, has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Milan since joining the club. His time at San Siro has been marred by injuries, limiting his impact on the pitch. However, he recently marked his return from a thigh injury by scoring in Milan’s Coppa Italia clash against Parma.

Meanwhile, Milan are preparing another bid for Gimenez, as per Calciomercato. The latest offer is expected to be in the range of €35M to €40M, structured with performance-related add-ons. While this bid still falls short of Feyenoord’s valuation, it brings Milan closer to securing the Mexican striker.

Gimenez has reportedly rejected interest from clubs in France, the Premier League, and Saudi Arabia in favor of a move to the Rossoneri. Milan have already reached a verbal agreement with the 22-year-old on a three-year contract with an option, worth €2.5M per season.

Despite his recent underwhelming form, Milan must carefully consider their squad depth before sanctioning Chukwueze’s departure. Coach Sergio Conceiçao has emphasized the importance of having quality options off the bench, particularly given Milan’s frequent injury woes.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Milan face a crucial decision—whether to sell Chukwueze to fund their pursuit of Gimenez or explore alternative means to bolster their attack.
