Former Leicester City defender Curtis Davies has hailed Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri for his impressive performance in the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over the Foxes on Saturday afternoon.
Despite Arsenal missing several key players, the 17-year-old midfielder stepped up, providing an assist for Mikel Merino’s opening goal. Nwaneri delivered a perfectly placed inswinging cross from the right, which Merino headed past Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.
The Spanish midfielder later secured his brace by tapping in a cross from Leandro Trossard.
Beyond his assist, Nwaneri was a standout performer throughout the match. He completed two key passes, struck the woodwork twice, and registered two shots on target—efforts that earned him the Player of the Match award.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Curtis Davies highlighted Nwaneri’s impact: “The best chance of the game came from Ethan Nwaneri who has been Arsenal’s best player, by far.”
“Ethan Nwaneri has been fantastic today, he hangs it up and Mikel Merino is at the back post. I can’t say its been coming. Leicester will be really disappointed.”
Nwaneri has been steadily making his mark for Arsenal this season, scoring seven goals and providing one assist in 23 appearances across all competitions. His latest display further strengthens his case for more first-team opportunities under Mikel Arteta.
