Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has explained his decision to introduce Chido Obi-Martin in the Red Devils’ 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.
Obi-Martin made his official debut for Manchester United in the match, replacing Brazilian midfielder Casemiro in the 91st minute. Due to injuries to key first-team players, it was the only substitution Amorim made during the game.
In his post-match press conference, Amorim elaborated on his decision:
“I think if you see Chido playing—he is very clever. So I was trying to put one more player because I felt the team was good during the game and I didn’t feel the need to change. Chido was that player; with one long ball, he could make a difference.”
Obi-Martin has been in excellent form since his summer move from Arsenal. The young forward has scored twelve goals and provided two assists in thirteen games across all competitions.
The young forward had little opportunity to make an impact during his brief time on the pitch due to the limited minutes. With several first-team players sidelined by injury, Obi-Martin will aim to impress Amorim in training and earn more opportunities to showcase his talent.
