Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has shed light on the reason Marcus Rashford, Anthony, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka struggled at Manchester United but are excelling elsewhere.
Onuoha, speaking on ESPN, highlighted the pressure and environment at the Manchester United as the reasons the players failed to flourish at Old Trafford.
Rashford left Manchester United in the winter and has been dazzling for Aston Villa. The England forward, who was introduced in the second half against Chelsea, provided two assists as Villa came from a goal down to defeat the Blues.
Anthony, who also joined Real Betis in January, has been impressing in La Liga, scoring two goals and providing two assists in four games.
While Wan-Bissaka has been a key part of West Ham since his move in the summer.
Speaking on the performance of the players, Onuoha highlighted the criticism the players get at United as the reason they didn’t showcase themselves enough at Old Trafford.
“I think the way you get scrutinized when you’re at Manchester United is different from those other clubs.”
“Yes, those clubs are like big clubs respectively but it is not the same as the criticism base level that a United player or team gets.”
He further highlighted the enabling environment in the new clubs and emphasized how it improves the players performance.
“They (the players) look like they are enjoying their football. Wan-Bissaka is bubbling up the wing for West Ham. You see Rashford flying away from people at Villa. And now Anthony himself. He is composed and looking for those final boys. He is trusted. The manager wants to see him out on the field.”
“He wants to have an impact. That’s thing thing for lots of players, if you’re enjoying your football, you can get the best version of it.”
“I think Rashford at United, that red shirt, playing in front of those fans at Old Trafford, it weighs heavy on a lots of people, for those three people in the last couple of years, it must be incredible heavy because we never saw the best of them.”
“But it’s good to see them out there because these are good players, they might not be good at the level that’s needed for them to be successful but they are still good players and it’s good to see them having an impact.”
