Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has received an outpouring of support from his teammates following the heartbreaking news of his father’s passing.
The South Africa-based goalkeeper, who recently played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), shared the tragic news on his social media accounts, accompanied by emotional tributes to his late father.
In his post, Nwabali expressed his grief with heartfelt words, writing, “Rest in peace, dad,” and “Rest in heaven,” alongside tearful and heartbreak emojis.
The tragic loss has sent shockwaves through the Super Eagles camp, with several players offering their condolences and words of encouragement to their teammate during this difficult time.
Team captain William Troost-Ekong was among the first to show his support, writing, “Love you my brother, Nwabali, we dey together.”
Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, who has been in stellar form, also reached out with a message of strength, saying, “Stay strong bro.”
Moses Simon, another key figure in the squad, echoed the sentiments with a supportive message: “Stay strong bro, we are together.”
Super Eagles’ third-choice goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, shared a more personal note, writing, “My Chief, I hold you close in my thoughts in this sad time. I’m deeply sorry for your loss.”
As the team prepares for their final AFCON qualifier against Rwanda, scheduled for the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, it remains uncertain whether Nwabali will be allowed to leave the camp to attend to his family during this period of mourning.
