Montreal keeps faith with Sunusi, leaves Wanyama in the woods

CF Montreal has announced the retention of Nigeria international forward Sunusi Ibrahim for the 2025 season.

Ibrahim has been part of the Canadian team since 2021.

In total, CF Montreal will retain 16 players for the upcoming season.

Conversely, former Tottenham Hotspur and Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama will not have his contract extended.

The club also revealed that assistant coach Laurent Ciman, goalkeeper coach Romuald Peiser, and goalkeeping development coach Luca Bucci will not be returning for the next year.

Sunusi, an U22 Initiative signing recorded 6 goals and 1 assist in 25 MLS appearances (10 starts) this season.

During his time with Montreal, the 22-year-old has established himself as a reliable rotational player, accumulating 4,050 total minutes and contributing to the club’s Canadian Championship victory in 2021.

He lists Basira FC, Nasarawa United and 36 Lion as his former clubs.
