Turkish Giants Trabzonspor Eye Super Eagles Star Bruno Onyemaechi

Turkish Süper Lig powerhouse Trabzonspor, who have been persistent in their pursuit of towering Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu, have turned their attention to another Nigerian international, Bruno Onyemaechi, as they seek reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window.

The club is reportedly in the market for a left-back, and Onyemaechi, currently with Portuguese side Boavista, has caught their eye.

Sources indicate that Trabzonspor has made initial inquiries about the player’s availability and the terms of a potential transfer. Boavista, however, has placed a €2 million price tag on the 25-year-old defender, who is under contract with the club until 2026.

Onyemaechi has been a consistent performer for Boavista this season, making 11 league appearances and contributing one goal. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Trabzonspor now looking to secure his services to bolster their defensive options.

The Nigerian international made his senior debut for the Super Eagles on September 10, 2023, in a commanding 6–0 victory against São Tomé and Príncipe during the final group stage match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Onyemaechi played the full 90 minutes as a left-back, impressing with his defensive solidity and attacking support.

Nigeria went on to reach the AFCON final but narrowly lost 2–1 to Ivory Coast. Onyemaechi’s involvement in the tournament further cemented his growing reputation, adding to his appeal for top European clubs.

Trabzonspor’s pursuit of Onyemaechi underscores their intent to strengthen their squad as they aim to compete both domestically and in European competitions. With the winter transfer window approaching, negotiations are expected to intensify as the Turkish giants look to finalize their transfer targets.
